ABOUT ME

Hello, my name is Catherine Kanter.  I’m an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist in North London (HCPC Registered and BAAT member).

I have worked with adults in NHS community and acute in-patient settings and within the charitable sector and private practice.  With young children, I have worked as a drama and arts therapist and as a teacher.  I have experience working with clients with a variety of issues, among them - anxiety, depression, neurodiversity, fertility, sexual identity, grief, childhood neglect, racial abuse and transgenerational trauma.

At different times in our lives we may struggle with issues that we can’t seem to find our way out of alone.  You may feel anxious, isolated or overwhelmed or maybe you are finding it difficult to navigate uncertainty or pressures at work or in your home-life. The recent years’ global events and challenges may have had its own impact.

Living a life can be a complicated journey – sometimes we are in the sunlight, sometimes we’re in the trees.  Therapy offers a unique opportunity to build a relationship where you can feel safe and understood, to talk about any experience or thoughts.  For some people, this may be the first time they feel their story is being heard with compassion and without judgment.  It is an opportunity to find, together, a way through the trees towards understanding, hope and meaning.

As an integrative therapist, I use different therapy and psychological theories to create an approach which suits your needs.  Most importantly, I work in response to you and what you bring to each session.

I see my therapeutic role as one of a co-traveller. You are the driver, and I am in the passenger seat.  I may notice/point out parts of the landscape that we are driving through, and I may ask you to slow down so that we can both look around in more detail and explore together.

We will spend much of our time together talking and while I am trained to use the creative arts, they are not a prerequisite to our sessions. The time and space will be yours to explore what works best for you.
